Our volunteers devote time and energy on top of their own busy lives to give girls the opportunity to learn, have fun, and grow in a positive, supportive environment.

Keeping up with girls’ ever-changing needs isn’t always easy, but because of you, we’ve got this!

Today’s girls need inspiration. They need role models and mentors. They need a sounding board for their innovative ideas and the knowledge that they’ll have help bouncing back if their plans don’t work out.

Girl Scouts is able to give them all this and more, thanks to the incredible efforts of our volunteers.

Adult Awards

Every day, GSCV volunteers help girls discover their full potential by providing opportunities that allow them to pursue their interests and passions, develop their leadership style and skills, and build cross-cultural connections and relationships that last a lifetime. Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia cherishes our volunteers and recognizes the valuable contribution they make in developing girl leaders.

Volunteer Awards are meant to recognize adult members who go above and beyond, resulting in exceeding the expectations of their positions and changing our organization, and even the world as we know it.

Adult Award Nominations

Do you know someone who deserves recognition?

Who has gone above and beyond as a volunteer? Who truly shows what it means to be a Girl Scout? Who makes a difference in the lives of girls, makes volunteering easier for adults and makes the Girl Scout Movement shine?

Show them how much they mean by nominating them for an adult award. It's easy:

Any friend to Girl Scouts can be nominated. Most awards require that nominees be active, registered adult Girl Scouts in good standing.
Anyone can nominate — girls, adults, volunteers, community members.

We also recognize Girl Scout volunteers for years of service and for combined years of members as a girl and as an adult member. Each year, volunteers have the opportunity to submit their Girl Scout membership years or years of service for service pins.

Girl Scout volunteers are the heart and soul of the Girl Scout Movement. Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia deeply values its volunteers for their contributions in developing girl leaders.

Volunteer of Excellence toggle arrow

The Volunteer of Excellence Award recognizes volunteers who have contributed outstanding service while partnering directly with girls to implement the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through the use
of the National Program Portfolio or who have contributed outstanding service in support of the council’s mission delivery to girl and adult members.

The nominee is an active, registered adult Girl Scout in good standing.
The nominee has successfully completed a term of service and all requirements for the position.
The nominee has performed beyond expectations for the position to deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls using the National Program Portfolio, or has been above and beyond the expectations of the position and has supported the council’s mission-delivery goals in one or more of the following functional areas: Membership Development/Community Cultivation, Volunteer Relations and Support, Program, Leadership and Governance, Fund Development or Council Support Service.

Complete and submit the online nomination form by January 15, 2027.

The council's Recognition Committee reviews the nomination documentation to ensure that the candidate meets requirements. The nominator will receive notification of approval or denial of award. Shortly after notification to nominators, awardees will receive an invitation to the Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s annual adult award ceremony, where awards will be presented by the GSCV Board president and the CEO.

Appreciation Pin toggle arrow

The Appreciation Pin recognizes an individual’s exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. This service, which has had measurable impact on at least one service unit, contributes to expanding the council’s reach and surpassing its mission-delivery goals for that area.

The nominee is an active, registered adult Girl Scout in good standing.
The service performed by the nominee is above and beyond the expectations for the position held and has made an impact on at least one service unit within the council’s jurisdiction.

Complete and submit the online nomination form by January 15, 2027.

Honor Pin

The Honor Pin recognizes an individual’s exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and has had a measurable impact on two or more service units, contributing to the goals of the council to reach and surpass its mission-delivery.

The nominee is an active, registered adult Girl Scout in good standing.
The service performed by the nominee is above and beyond the expectations for the position held and has made an impact on two or more service units within the council’s jurisdiction.

Complete and submit the online nomination form by January 15, 2027.

Thanks Badge toggle arrow

The Thanks Badge honors an individual whose ongoing commitment, leadership, and service has had an exceptional, measurable impact on meeting the mission-delivery goals and priorities of the entire council
or the entire Girl Scout Movement.

The nominee is an active, registered adult Girl Scout in good standing.
The outstanding service performed by the nominee resulted in outcomes that benefited the total council or the entire Girl Scout Movement and is so significantly above and beyond the call of duty that no other award would be appropriate.

Complete and submit the online nomination form by January 15, 2027.

Thanks Badge II toggle arrow

The Thanks Badge II honors a previous Thanks Badge award recipient who has continued to provide exemplary service in a leadership role, resulting in a measurable impact that benefits the entire Girl Scout Movement.

The nominee is an active, registered adult Girl Scout in good standing.
The nominee has received the Thanks Badge.
The outstanding service performed by the nominee resulted in outcomes that benefited the total council or the entire Girl Scout Movement and is so significantly above and beyond the call of duty that no other award would be appropriate.

Complete and submit the online nomination form by January 15, 2027.

Years of Service Pin toggle arrow

The Volunteer Years of Service Pin recognizes an adult member registered with GSUSA for her/his years of active volunteer service at five-year intervals (5, 10, 15, etc.). This pin differs from the numeral guard in that it represents the number of years an adult volunteer has actively provided service to the Girl Scout Movement.

The candidate is an active, registered adult Girl Scout in good standing.
The candidate served as an adult volunteer for the number of years indicated.

For the Years of Service Pin, complete the online request form by January 15, 2027.

For 5-, 10- and 15-year pins, the candidate or a representative from the service unit may purchase the appropriate pin at GSCV’s retail shop and present the pin at a service unit-level recognition event. For 20+-year pins, GSCV purchases the pin and presents it at the council's annual adult award ceremony.

Membership Numeral toggle arrow

The membership numerals recognize the individual for combined years of membership both as a girl and adult member at each five-year interval (5, 10, 15, etc.).

The candidate is an active, registered adult Girl Scout in good standing.
The candidate has been a member for the number of years indicated.

These recognitions do not require endorsement. The volunteer wishing to receive the pins completes the online request form by January 15, 2027.

Community Award toggle arrow

The Community Award certificate formally acknowledges individuals, businesses, organizations, churches, schools, or other agencies who have given special or consistent support to Girl Scouting. Recipients will receive a certificate recognizing their contribution.

The organization or individual has given special or consistent support to Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Complete and submit the online nomination form by January 15, 2027.

The nominator will receive notification of approval, and the certificates will be mailed to the nominator. Nominators should plan an appropriate presentation ceremony for the honoree.
