Pamunkey Ridge Girl Scout Camp Overview

Pamunkey Ridge Girl Scout Camp is located on 240 acres along the banks of the Pamunkey River. A day and resident camp program facility, Pamunkey Ridge features cabins, modern restrooms and dining hall facilities, tennis and basketball courts, a swimming pool, an equestrian center, and a large sports field.

Day Camp

Pamunkey Ridge Day Camp will operate Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. -4 p.m. Parents who choose to provide their own transportation should drop-off and pick-up their daughter at these times. Early arrival and late departures cannot be accommodated. A closing ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on the last day of the camp session. Parents, family, and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. The bus transportation schedule is available to girls not riding home with a parent.

Day Camp Half-Off Deal

Help make Pamunkey Ridge Day Camp a success this summer! Bus chaperones and program assistants are needed. GSCC will refund one half of a camper’s fee if the parent fulfills training and volunteer commitments. In addition the adult will receive free round-trip bus transportation and lunch each day. The sixth Secret of Pamunkey Ridge July 7-11 Discover the sixth of the nine secrets hidden at Pamunkey Ridge Girl Scout Camp. Explore hidden treasures based on a make-believe Indian legend. Girls will uncover clues to solve the mystery of the sixth secret to find where the treasure is hidden. The fifth secret was discovered last summer. No need to worry if you missed the first five secrets. The secrets can be discovered in any order!

Equestrian Resident Camp

Pamunkey Ridge equestrian resident camp gives girls the opportunity to learn all aspects of the English riding discipline. Girls will also learn the basics of horse care and grooming. The equestrian staff has a wide variety of experience and knowledge. Some staff are from local areas; others travel from as far as England and Germany. Girls will also take part in traditional camp activities and be assigned cabins according to age. On the last day of the camp session, a horse show will be held at

Resident Camp

Check-in: Campers check-in between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on the opening day of their camp session. Parents and guardians are asked to stay with their daughters until the check-in procedure is completed.

Check-out: A closing ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. on the last day of the camp session. Parents, family, and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. All girls must be picked up no later than

3:30 p.m. (Note: Parents may arrive as early as 1:45 p.m. to collect their daughter’s belongings.)

Equestrian Participants:

Resident Camp Basics:

Girl Scout resident camp is the place for fun, excitement and adventure. With a wide variety of programs, there is something for every girl. For girls entering grades 11-12 Put your outdoor expertise and leadership experience into action in this two-year program. During year one, the first two weeks will be spent polishing your camp skills, exploring program development and learning leadership skills. For the remainder of the time, you will put these skills to

use in an internship with younger campers.
The CIT II program includes a week of more in-depth leadership training and a two-week internship
with younger campers. CIT I training, given through any Girl Scout council is the prerequisite for CIT II.

For girls entering grades 11-12 Put your outdoor expertise and leadership experience into action in this two-year program. Program Aide Training July 6-11

For girls entering grades 7-12 Included in this fun week at camp, you will receive six hours of training, which fulfils the requirements of the Program Aide Pin. You will learn basic leadership skills to use in troop or event settings with younger Girl Scouts. Program Aides must be registered as Cadette or Senior Girl Scouts and have completed the sixth grade.

Trained Program Aide July 6-11, 13-18, 20-25, July 27–Aug1, Aug 3-8

Once the training is completed (either at camp or in the troop setting), girls are eligible to register for further sessions as pre-trained Program Aides at a reduced cost of $175 per week. Girls will be assigned to a group and assist counselors, or work in a specialized area, such as arts and crafts or canoes. These hours count toward their Program Aide Patch. If a camper has horse knowledge and experience, she can be a Pony PA. Please look in the Equestrian portion of the camp book for more info.

Paddlers July 6-11

For girls entering grades 7-12 Prereq. – Must be able to swim 5 lengths of the pool & tread water for at least 5 minutes. Learn the basics and beyond. Work on the Paddle, Pole & Roll Interest Project patch while still having time to enjoy swimming, cooking out, and relaxing with friends. Girls will be grouped by ability so that those with more experience can participate in more challenging activities.

Pamunkey Survivor July 6-15

For girls entering grades 7-12
In this session you will travel (for the day) to a nearby Challenge Course. During your OUT OF CAMP TRIP,
you will complete TWO different challenge experiences. When you return to camp, the adventure is
not over. Spend days learning survival skills, CPR and First Aid. You will also hike to your campsite and
pitch your tents.
NOTE: This session may be cancelled if minimum participation level is not reached.

For girls entering grades 7-12 In this week of creativity and movement, girls can work on improving techniques or simply learn new ones. Girls will also have the chance to learn stunts and jumps to use in a cheer routine that they will put together to perform at the end of the week. For girls entering grades 7-12 In this week of camping excitement you will master many different camping activities. Camp Vacation July 27-Aug 1

For girls entering grades 7-12 Spend one day at Kings Dominion, riding the roller coasters, hanging out in the water park all day without a care in the world. Have a picnic for lunch. When you get back from the park you will still have time to go canoeing and have an archery competition. NOTE: This session may be cancelled if minimum participation level is not reached. Also must have parents to volunteer and pay their own way to Kings Dominion.

Tents, Canoes and Kayaks Oh My! Aug 3-8

For girls entering grades 7-12

Prerequisites: Girls must have competed “Paddlersor have equivalent experience, must be able to swim 50 yards continuously and tread water for 5 minutes.

Travel off camp! Be on the water for hours! Does this sound like fun? Then this is the program for you! We will go off site for the adventure you seek (4 days, 3 nights). You will sleep in tents and cook your own meals. However, it does not end there for you aquatic girls. In this program, you will spend hours on the river. Have fun fishing and listening to the sounds of nature. NOTE: This session may be cancelled if minimum participation level is not reached.
